I cut my chops writing about politics at the Stanford Daily, the Pennsylvania Voice, the alt weekly Santa Barbara News & Review, Energy User News, Renewable Energy News and Solar Industry Bulletin. Then I taught college political science for fifteen years in the Los Angeles area community colleges. I didn’t have a Ph.D. so I couldn’t teach university. I was pro-staff on a California Assembly primary campaign. I directed a mass-transit voter registration and get-out-the-vote project called Transit Vote run by U.S. Action. I did pro-bono issues research for a year on the Janet Reno for Governor campaign in Florida; don’t hold that against me! Then I was a 53 year-old paid intern for a long summer at the Miami-Dade Country Economic Development Agency. From 2007-2009 I hosted The Mark Weaver Show internet radio program and blog.
