The History

Mark Weaver iRadio is v 2 (2014-?) of my original internet radio show and blog from 2007-2009. iRadio is just the resumption and evolution of it. I’ve renamed it to market it more clearly as internet radio and not as defined as a ‘show’. This time around there’s more music and still a lot of interviews. My “formula” is two-thirds political commentary and the rest the coolest music (songs) I’m coming across. (#1 album of 2013? Arcade Fire, Reflektor) I weave between the two to keep it entertaining. All politics is just too boring. My politics are more radical now some will say, but it’s just my increasing awareness about the farce of American politics and elections; my analysis just keeps getting deeper.

If you are really into the history, here it is. I’ve been surprised how well so many of those shows hold up over time. Many of them are actually more interesting now than when I did them because you are viewing them with hindsight and they are full of foresight about what was coming. I hate to brag but I was shockingly astute about a lot of things. And the moments were I was wrong or naive, well those are educable today for all of us. That show is great background for anybody who wants to understand MW iRadio. It’s also a great history of the United States 2007-2009. Better than Howard Zinn himself (who I denounced for endorsing Obama before Zinn rescinded his endorsement a month later after getting hell from people like me). I did over 100 weekly shows. At least a dozen of them turned out to be classics, those serendipitous moments where things just gelled by luck – the drama, the entertainment, the topic, often the guest or a caller, the deep drill down into the subject, the creative light bulbs popping in my brain leading to some amazing insights. Maybe I’ll cull these out some day, although I did allude to the great shows from time to time in my posts. I know one of them was my inaugural address in early February 2009 where I pretended I was the one who got elected president.

One of the most interesting things about that show was the rise and center-right presidency of Obama. I warned people about the guy starting in November, 2007 when I was already ABH (anybody but Hillary, check out those shows). He was a rightwinger basically. I begged people to oppose him, to go to his rallies and turn their backs to him and pretend they were passing out as a form of resistance. And he went downhill the week after he got elected and started naming his Wall Street Goldman Sachs, Imperial foreign policy, anti-civil liberties, anti-environmental, anti-gay marriage (at the time), pro-drug war, sweep-the-Bush/Cheney crimes under the rug-because-we’re going to keep doing the same kinds of things, expand the drone wars and surveillance state.
